Deputy Cox attended the Ohio State University and spent four year in the Air Force. Cox started with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in 1971 as a patrol officer. He was later promoted to Patrol Sergeant, and then to the rank of Lieutenant serving as the Patrol Commander. In August of 1998, Cox was promoted to the rank of Captain and became the Commander of both the Patrol and Investigations divisions. Cox's duties were many. Besides commanding two entire divisions, he coordinated all special teams including D.A.R.E., the S.T.A.R Team, the Emergency Rescue Team, Mounted Unit, and major Traffic Crash Investigations. Don is certified in photography, accident investigations, auto theft, drug investigations, K-55 and Laser radars, Intoxiyler, First Line supervision, and Management & Administration. Dep. Cox enjoys meeting and serving the public. In 2003, Don retired from his full time status, but remained as an auxiliary unit. He is an avid Ohio State fan and enjoys all sports.
