Sgt. Weidman started with the Fayette County Sheriff's Office in 1990 under former Sheriff Robert McArthur. At that time, he was assigned to the corrections division. In 1993, Weidman received his certification from the Ohio Peace Officers Training Academy level three of the Corrections Training program held in Pickaway County, and in 1994 he received his certification as a Peace Officer from the Greenfield Police Academy. In the spring of 1997, Matt was promoted to the rank of Corporal in the Corrections division, and then in July of 2001, to the rank of Sergeant. He also attended the Northwest University Traffic Institute for Critical Incident Communications. Sgt. Weidman is a former member of the Wayne Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. and received his certificate from the National Fire Academy. Sgt. Weidman states that corrections officers serve a very important role in law enforcement. Coming into contact with many juveniles, their goal is to try to help them make the right decisions in life at a young age. It is much the same with adults. To try and help them by counseling them in everyday choices. Sgt. Weidman's hobbies include woodworking, fishing, hunting and NASCAR racing. Matt says he is very proud be be a member of the Fayette County Sheriff's Office.
