Deputy Russell joined the Sheriff's Office in 1970 as an auxiliary deputy, attended the Fayette County Sheriff's Office training school in 1971, and was hired full time in 1973 as a patrol officer. Russell was promoted to the rank of patrol sergeant in 1992, and then to Lieutenant in 1997. At that time he was reassigned to the Detective Bureau, and in 2002, retired after 32 years of service. Deputy Russell has attended over 50 classes and seminars since 1973 pertaining to all aspects of law enforcement. Russell has completed specialized training in several fields including firearms, traffic investigation, auto theft, forensics and supervision. Deputy Russell's hobbies include Genealogy.
